Hello Beautiful People! I'm choosing what photos to use on my cover and article spread by placing the cutouts that I made earlier on the page mockups and seeing which ones I like best. I'm going to change the background and colors later, this is just to see which photos fit best.
I started out by adding the first photo to my mockup in InDesign and adjusting the size to how I want it. I then tried flipping it horizontally to see if I liked it better that way (I did not). My biggest issue with this one was that her hand was going to cover part of the title, which isn't a problem, but I needed it to still be readable, so it couldn't cover up too much. But I also didn't want to make it too small. My solution was to move it over to the left side so that her hand covered part of the "T", and although the entire beam isn't on the page, it still looks good.
When it came time to move the words to the empty space on the right side, I wasn't able to select the words because the photo was covering it, and I couldn't figure out how to move it behind. After playing around with it for a while, I figured out that the whole page was in one layer, so I ended up deleting the photo, then adding a second layer, then adding the photo back so that I could temporarily move it behind the text. This way, I can also add all my potential photos in new layers and make them not visible. This way I don't have to start over at the end.
Anyways this is the first option:
